Thank you J Crew for re-instilling pride in the job of bridesmaid. No longer do you see brides shuffling down the aisle in ill-fitted, frumpy dresses. Bridesmaid dresses have taken on the ethos of the LBD (little black dress). It’s modern, simple and to be worn again. And the colors are simply to-die for. Cotton, taffeta, silk, organza, tricotine… Shifts, A-lines, empire, long, short… wisteria, plum, aluminum, pine. The latest trend, one that I enjoyed as a bridesmaid (the JCrew chocolate brown silk faille Whitney dress) and then passed along to my bridesmaids, is to select a color (mine was light pewter, not to be confused with aluminum or silver) and request that your bridesmaids select a style that best suits their body-type. And especially in this economy, when weddings = money we don’t have, it’s great to have a reason to indulge in something (the dress) that you will wear again.
Always a bridesmaid, never a bride…
